Read this info before you book
This is a wilder camping experience for those who want to unplug & connect with nature. This is NOT a typical camp… your car will be left behind and everything you bring will be wheelbarrowed to your spot. We have NO SHOWERS or electric plug in at our pitches. You will be using (beautiful) compost toilets on site.
How fit do I need to be?
Our camping spot are up a 200metre hill on the side of a valley, you need a good level of fitness/mobility as you will be carrying your own gear in a wheelbarrow up the hill and into the wilds! So travel light..
Are there tracks and walks on site?
We have 3 different trails on site ‘The Track’, ‘The forest walk’ and ‘The Waterfall walk’ all of our tracks require walking shoes or boots and are medium-hard level with uneven ground and no handrails. Coordination and good mobility required.
Is there water on site?
Yes we have tapped drinking water up to campsite area for your use. There are buckets & vessels you can use to carry water.
Are there showers?
No showers. You can keep clean in the basins in the toilets or you can go for a cool dip in Gleno waterfall!
How do the toilets work?
As you are camping in the ‘nearly wild’ we do not have flush toilets, we have very environmentally friendly compost toilets. These are cleaned & checked every day. If you have never used them before we will show you how they work when you arrive. We also have a flush toilet at reception.
Pretty beautiful compost toilets, right?!
Am I allowed to have a campfire to cook on?
Yes providing weather hasn’t been too dry campfires will be allowed at your pitch. We also have a communal fireplace and rustic campers kitchen for groups to use, and to have a shared space where people can meet each other.
Cooking bread on Hazel sticks around the communal firepit..
Can I buy wood onsite to burn on campfire?
Yes you can purchase wood on site for £7 per bag, which is usually enough for a nights burning of around 3-4hours. You are welcome instead to gather wood free of charge from our forest. Or if your prefer you can bring your own wood, or a camping stove with gas.
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring all the usual things you would bring if you are going camping: all your food, tent, cooking equipment, sleeping bag & mat if you can have one. The ground can be hard! We minimise lighting on site, so a torch might be handy. Warm clothes. Proper walking shoes or hiking boots are essential to do our trails.
Am I allowed to bring my dog?
Yes but due to our livestock of chickens and ducks it is essential that they are kept on a lead at all times. We have dogs, chickens and young children loose on site so would ask that if your dog is aggressive or likely to disturb that you leave them at home. If a dogs behaviour is troublesome we retain the right to ask them to leave the campsite.
This beautiful boy had a recent run in with a dog…he didn’t make it.
How many pitches do you have?
We have small 2 pitches this year with the yurt tent available for larger groups. These pitches are spread apart and give the feeling of being in the wild. Read more about our pitches.
What size are you pitches?
Our pitches are small- they will best suit a 1-3 person tent anything bigger than that we suggest you just bok our family yurt tent to save carrying gear up our long hill! See more pictures of tents.
How many people can camp on one pitch?
We define the ‘pitch’ as the amount of space in one of our wild pitches, so we do not mind if you have 1 tent up or 2 or 3 small ones- whatever you can fit in that space. 4-5 people is generally the max that can camp on one pitch (max 2 smaller tents or one large one) if you have more than that in your group just book another pitch and we can make sure to put you close together. We charge £20 for a 1 person pitch and £10 per adult head after that.
What is your cancellation policy?
We both have other jobs and so our trying to keep our admin work to a minimum. The full payment is taken at time of booking and it needs to be cancelled within 72hours of arrival to receive a refund. We are reasonable people and if there is something that is beyond your control we can rearrange the booking for when we have space.
What if it is heavy rain?
We are very aware that the summertime weather cannot be relied upon! If we have to close the campsite due to flooding or high winds, we will offer a refund or reschedule. We have several options of outdoor hangout spaces that you can use when you are here in the case of bad weather.
